A California family has filed a lawsuit against Tesla and CEO Elon Musk after a 31-year-old man, Genesis Giovanni Mendoza Martinez, was killed in a crash while using the company’s autopilot feature. The incident occurred on February 18, 2023, when Mendoza’s Tesla, operating in autopilot mode for 12 minutes, collided with a stationary firetruck at 71 mph, resulting in his death ,

and injuries to his brother. Four firefighters also sustained minor injuries.The family’s attorney argues that Tesla’s autopilot system is “dangerous” and “ill-equipped,” accusing the company of putting public safety at risk by using public roads to test its autonomous technology. The lawsuit claims the system failed to recognize the firetruck, exposing serious flaws in the design and functionality of the autopilot feature.
